FAQ
- What is Myback®?
- Myback® is a device for performing back stretching and lumbar disc decompression exercises. Unlike gravity inversion devices, Myback® ensures that your back and head remain in a natural, non-traumatic supine position.
- What benefits does Myback® offer?
- After strenuous training or competitive sports activity that subjects the vertebral column to excessive impact and strain, Myback® can help to quickly rebalance the pressures brought to bear on the intervertebral discs and so protect the athlete from the risks associated with back pain of mechanical origin; that is, associated with disorders caused by overloads on the vertebral column (disc protrusion, other discopathies, herniated disc).
In cases, instead, of back pain caused by excessive muscle tension deriving from physical and psychological strain/stress, the posture achieved using Myback® can be highly efficacious for stretching and relaxing the lumbar musculature.
- Is there an age limit for using Myback®?
- Since the user is in the supine position, with the back supported, Myback® is suitable for use at any age. Fundamentally, the exercises consist in passive relaxation generated by the absence of the gravity pull of your body weight on the lumbar area of the vertebral column and by the slight traction achieved with the knees flexed and the pelvis raised from the horizontal surface.
- How long must I use Myback® before I feel beneficial effects?
- Since your back is subject to continual stress and strain, it is advisable to perform decompression/relaxation exercises on a daily basis.
Above all, people whose backs are subjected strain every day (due to awkward or static postures or excessive loads; for example, workers who spend many hours sitting, overweight persons . . .) and professional or amateur athletes who engage in intense physical activity will feel the beneficial effects of stretching with Myback® immediately, during the first exercise session.
- Is there a particular time of day when using Myback® is most effective?
- To athletes and those who engage in sports in general, we recommend using Myback® at the end of training sessions to relax and stretch the back.
To people whose work or primary activity is sedentary, we recommend using Myback® right after work or at the end of the day.
For example, a person who spends the greater part of the day sitting may use Myback® to relax upon his or her return home – before engaging in any other activity – and a second session before going to bed for the night.
- How long is a session with Myback®?
- The recommended time-per-session in the Myback® posture is just a few minutes.
We recommend performing your first exercises in 3 series of 2 minutes’ duration each, with a 30-second rest between series’. Over time, as you familiarise yourself with the device, you may want to increase the time you spend in the Myback® posture to 6-10 consecutive minutes. The ideal time will vary from person to person, since the initial sensation of relief generated by the absence of gravity pull on the lumbar region will be followed by a slight tingling sensation in the legs, caused by the pressure exerted by supports on the backs of the knees (popliteal cavities). We recommend raising the pelvis by only a few centimetres, without exaggerating, even though some people prefer a greater elevation. A lift of 3-5 cm (a handbreadth) is sufficient to obtain all the benefits of relaxation and decompression with Myback®.
- Are there any adverse effects/contraindications to using Myback®?
- DURING THE EXERCISE
After a few minutes with the pelvis lifted, the popliteal cavity (back of the knee) will become numb and you may feel a slight tingling in your feet. These sensations will disappear a few seconds after conclusion of the exercise.
END OF EXERCISE Once the supports have been lowered completely, remain in the supine position for at least 1 minute before getting up.
- For which disorders is Myback® most strongly recommended?
- It is well known that sufferers from mechanically-induced back pain (that is, pain traceable to overloading of the vertebral column, using the back awkwardly or inappropriately, holding fixed postures for long periods of time, etc., which can cause thinning of the intervertebral discs and resultant disorders such as sciatic pain, discopathies, disc protrusion or bulging) can benefit from assuming antalgic relaxation postures, Myback® is an antalgic lumbar positioning device for independently performing lumbar stretching and decompression exercises.
- What action does Myback® exert on the back?
- Normally, during our daily activities, the discs which act as ‘cushions’ between one vertebra and the next undergo dehydration and reduction of thickness. This situation is normally remedied during sleep, when the discs are rehydrated.
The posture imposed by Myback® elongates the vertebral column in the lumbar region, thus reducing pressure on the intervertebral discs and allowing them to rehydrate.
